Location Is The New Intelligence

Critchlow put location intelligence on the map as a powerful business analysis tool at its 2010 Location Intelligence Forums.

Held in Auckland and Wellington, aound 100 public and private sector organisations turned out to hear more about how businesses are using location intelligence to make dramatic business gains.

“Location is the new intelligence” according to Jos Kunnen Critchlow chief executive

He described how the convergence of trends like cloud computing, location enabled social media, crowd sourcing are laying the platform for organisations to use location intelligence solutions for business advantage.

“While mapping and geographical information systems are becoming increasingly common in business, location intelligence is only just starting to hit its stride in New Zealand. There's huge untapped potential,” explains Mr Kunnen.

He described how organisations were making dramatic gains as a result of using location analysis - the organisation that saved around 40% off its fuel bill as a result of smarter routing; the retailer that used sophisticated location analysis to support store location decisions; and the government department that used location intelligence to detect and analyse fraud.

“Location intelligence enables organisations to capitalise on their location-based data, gaining deeper insights into their customers, resources and overall operations to make more informed decisions,” he says.

Mr Kunnen also signalled some of the business relationships Critchlow is forging with providers of leading edge location intelligence solutions and data sets, and he told attendees to expect more announcements soon.

A significant portion of the forum was devoted to the importance of data quality. Critchlow's data services manager, Russell Bowden, discussed the efficiency gains and cost savings that can be made from cleansing data.

The event also marked the New Zealand release of MapInfo Professional 10.5 - Pitney Bowes Software flagship digital mapping platform.

The events, exclusive to Critchlow's New Zealand client base, were an overwhelming success according to Mr Kunnen.

“Everyone left with some new insights into the potential of location intelligence. That's what we were aiming for, and we're already planning some more detailed follow-up events for specific client groups,” he says.
